A Hindu Sadhu (holy man) worships the Sun God while taking a holy dip
at the Gangasagar Mela on the eastern Indian island of Sagar, 150
kilometres south of Calcutta January 14, 2002. More than 300,000
pilgrims came to the Sagar island to immerse themselves where the river
Ganga, considered holy by Hindus, meets the Bay of Bengal, on occasion
of Makar Sankranti, an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar.
