HINDU NATIONALIST BJP ACTIVISTS DEFACE POSTER OF BOLLYWOOD STAR KAREEN
KAPOOR IN BOMBAY.
Activists of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party deface a
poster of popular Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor in an advertisement for
an American softdrink in Bombay August 6, 2003. The activists were
protesting against softdrink giants Coca-Cola and Pepsi, which they
said were selling softdrinks containing pesticides. An environmental
group, the Centre for Science and Environment, on Tuesday named several
international and Indian softdrink manufacturers, in their report that
their beverages contained high levels of pesticides such as DDT and
malathion. Although the softdrink giants denied the presence of
pesticides, the Indian parliament has stopped the sale of Coke and
Pepsi on it's premises. REUTERS/Sherwin Crasto
