INDIAN COMMUNIST LEADER BASU SPEAKS ON 90TH BIRTHDAY IN CALCUTTA.
Indian communist leader Jyoti Basu (L) speaks during his 90th birthday
celebration while sitting next to a wax statue of himself in Calcutta
on July 8, 2003. Basu belongs to India's Communist Party of India
(Marxist) which rules two out of the country's 29 states. He attacked
the liberal economic policies of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's
government and said that it had destroyed the economic fabric of the
country by opening the floodgates for American companies.
