Hindu devotees take a holy dip at a sacred pond during the first 'Shahi
Snan" (grand bath) at the ongoing Kumbh Mela (sacred Hindu pilgrimage) in
Trimbakeshwar, near Nasik, some 180 km (112.5 miles) northeast of Bombay
August 12, 2003. Hundreds of thousands of Hindu devotees gathered to take
the dip in the pond filled with water from the river Godavari at
Trimbakeshwar in the month-long religious event. The Kumbh Mela occurs four
times every twelve years at four different river bank locations in India.
