VILLAGERS MAN A ROADBLOCK ON THE INDONESIAN ISLAND OF BINTAN.
Residents of Lagoi, manning a road block, demand identification from a passing motorist in the Indonesian island of Bintan January 18. The road block was set up to prevent undercover police and other 'provocateurs' from disrupting the demonstrations held daily since last Saturday, at the entrance leading to Pulau Bintan Wisata Lagoi, a beach resort owned by Indonesian and Singapore companies. Factories at an industrial estate on Bintan, an Indonesian resort island near Singapore, reopen on Tuesday after closing for two days because protesters had shut off the power supply to bring attention to their landrights, the developer of the estate said.
