at Jatiluhur dam, a major power and water supply for Jakarta, in West
Java, 100 km (62 miles) southeast of the capital, September 4, 2003. A
water shortage on Java due to seasonal drought has already affected
farmers and Jakarta residents and is expected to disrupt power supplies
in the capital in the coming months. The water level at the reservoir
was around 79 meters on Thursday, down from the usual 94 meters.
