U.S. MARINES PATROL A COAST DURING EXERCISE IN SOUTHERN CYPRUS.
A U.S. Marine of the Naval Gunfire Liaison leads a team of marines
after landing on a beach near a British military base near the town of
Limassol on the island of Cyprus January 29, 2003. Some 1,000
kilometres from the shores of Iraq, British forces are preparing for a
possible conflict with Iraqi forces in a similar environment on
Cyprus's rugged coast - the difference being that behind the dunes lies
one of the largest RAF bases outside Britain.
