Iraqi expatriate poll worker looks at the ballot during Iraqs national election in Detroit.
Iraqi expatriate poll worker Esmah Al-Awadi looks at an election ballot at a polling place set up in Detroit, Michigan January 29, 2005. Iraqi expatriates braved long trips and frigid weather to cast their votes across the United States on Friday and Saturday. With more than 100,000 potential voters, the Detroit region has the largest U.S. concentration of Iraqi expatriates. Those who were born in Iraq or have a father from there and are over 18 are eligible to vote for a slate of political parties of candidates who will form a transitional national assembly to write a new constitution for the country.
