IRAQI SHIITE WOMEN WALK TO KERBALA ON A PILGRIMAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME
IN 26 YEARS.
An Iraqi Shiite woman carries her baby and is followed by her young son as
she makes her way to the central Iraqi city of Kerbala through a sand storm
in the desert April 20, 2003. Tens of thousands of Shi'ite Muslims are bound
for the holy city of Kerbala on a pilgrimage banned for nearly a quarter of
