US Army First Lieutenant Stephen Rice, formerly of the 233 Military Police Company of the Illinois National Guard, water skis with other military personnel who were disabled in combat as part of a weekend retreat sponsored by Disabled Sports USA, in New York, July 10, 2005. Rice lost part of his left leg after a secondary roadside bomb blast exploded while he was trying to attend to other wounded soldiers in Baghdad. The Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project provides recreation opportunities to service members with permanent physical disabilities resulting from the conflicts in Iraq or Afghanistan.
