MARLA VAN METER AND HUSBAND WALK IN YOUNG NECTARINE GROOVES ON GOLAN HEIGHTS KIBBUTZ AFIK.
FOR RELEASE WITH FEATURE BC-MIDEAST-GOLAN-SETTLERS - Marla Van Meter and her husband Dennis, both Israeli immigrants from California, walk through their fields of year-old nectarine sapplings on their farm overlooking the hills of Syria. Picture taken June 1. The Van Meters have worked as farmers on the Golan Heights for the past 16 years and are uneasy about the prospects of an Israeli withdrawal from the Heights and they might not be there to reap the harvest of their young trees when they mature. The Israeli settlers on the Golan Heights feel that the election of Ehud Barak as Prime Minister has cast a show of uncertainty over this fertile staegic plateau and their future lives.
