A young ultra-Orthodox Jew, silhouetted against a wall of posters in the religious Mea Shearim neighbourhood, drags heavy palm branches home September 22 to be used as roofing in his family's Sukkah (booth or Tabernacle) for the upcoming Festival of Sukkoth (Tabernacles) which begins on Friday night. Religious Jews sleep and eat in the booths during the week long festival which commemorates the biblical Hebrews' wandering in the desert after their exodus from Egypt more than 3,000 years ago.
