A humanitarian crisis on the southern island of Lampedusa grew worse on Tuesday as the Italian government announced new measures to deal with migrants arriving from turmoil-hit North Africa.The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) called on the government to speed up transfers of around 5,600 mostly Tunisian migrants who have more than doubled the small island's population and are enduring miserable conditions, ANSA reported.
