Although this Italian city has given birth to a host of delicious food, its name is synonymous in the U.S. for a pale pink sandwich meat which Americans pronounce baloney, but bears only slight resemblance to its noble ancestor, the mortadella sausage. Bologna-based food companies will resume exports of mortadella to the U.S. starting February 9 following a 20-year ban.
