THE LEANING TOWER OF PISA IS LIT UP DURING THE TRADITIONAL LUMINARA IN
PISA.
The famous leaning tower of Pisa is lit up during the traditional
"Luminara di San Ranieri" (Illuminations of St. Ranieri), in Pisa,
central Italy, June 16, 2003. For centuries, in order to celebrate
ancient Pisa's patron, Ranieri degli Scaccieri, some 70,000 candles
have been displayed at sunset inside glasses and then hung up over
wooden structures on palaces, bridges and towers along the river Arno.
