Kashmiri artisan works makes a Kani shawl in Roshanabad
Nazir Ahmad, a Kashmiri artisan, makes a "Kani" shawl at his loom in Roshanabad 20 km (12 miles) west of Srinagar December 11, 2006. Kani shawls are woven on a fame-loom using Tooji, which have coloured woollen thread attached to them. A Kani shawl takes from three months to a year for an artisan to complete a shawl depending on the embroidery and fetches from Rupees 20, 000 ($450) to 100,000 ($2270).
