An Indian Army soldier patrols a reconstructed bridge before its inauguration in Pattan, 27 km (16 miles) north of Srinagar, January 19, 2005. Indian authorities say that hundreds of bridges have been destroyed by separatist militants since a rebellion broke out in the Himalayan region of Kashmir at the end of 1989, and many of the damaged bridges have been reconstructed by the Indian army and local authorities.
