U.S. Colonel Kurt Taylor (L) from the United Nations Command (UNC) Military Armistice Commission gives gifts to South Korean graduates of Taesungdong Elementary School during a graduation ceremony in Taesungdong, in the heavily fortified demilitarised zone (DMZ) which separates South Korea from the North, in Paju, north of Seoul February 16, 2012. Taesungdong is less than one kilometre from North Korea. Access to Taesungdong is restricted to all but residents and carefully selected military personnel. There are a total of 50 houses in the village, in which some 210 South Koreans live. The village lies under the security cordon of the UNC, who are responsible for the safety of the villagers.
