The site of the first McDonalds restaurant sits across the street from a current McDonalds in Des Plaines, Illinois, April 15, 2005. The restaurant, opened in 1955 by founder Ray Kroc, was turned into a museum in 1985 and is open to the public for tours. The first restaurant operated by founder Ray Kroc opened on April 15, 1955 in Des Plaines, a northwest suburb of Chicago, and did $366 in sales that day.
