James Levine talks about the power of symphonies after being announced as the next conductor and music director of The Boston Symphony Orchestra October 29, 2001 at a news conference at Symphony Hall in Boston. Levine, who is currently New York Metropolitan Opera artistic director, will be the first American to hold the post in the BSO's 120-year history. [Levine will replace conductor Seiji Ozawa starting in the 2004-2005 season after Ozawa's departure to Vienna.]
