NIGERIAN PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN OBASANJO VISITS LIBERIAN PRESIDENT CHARLES
Soldiers salutes as Nigerian President Olusegun Obassandjo (L) arrives
in Liberia July 6, 2003 to meet Liberian President Charles Taylor (R).
Nigeria's president flew into Liberia on Sunday to discuss a smooth
exit for President Charles Taylor amid fears of chaos if he leaves his
ruined West African country under U.S. pressure. A team of U.S.
military experts was to head for Liberia as a possible precursor to a
bigger deployment to a country founded by freed American slaves in the
19th century and now laid waste by nearly 14 years of violence.
