Liberian President Charles Taylor waits to greet Nigerian President
Olusegun Obasanjo July 6, 2003. Nigeria's president flew into Liberia
on Sunday to discuss a smooth exit for President Charles Taylor amid
fears of chaos if he leaves his ruined West African country under U.S.
pressure. A team of U.S. military experts was to head for Liberia as a
possible precursor to a bigger deployment to a country founded by freed
American slaves in the 19th century and now laid waste by nearly 14
years of violence.. REUTERS/Luc Gnago
