Rio De Janeiro, Brazil -
BRAZILIANS KEEP ONE MINUTE SILENCE IN RIO DE JANEIRO.
Brazilians keep one minute silence in memory of the victims of attacks
in the U.S. one month ago, before they celebrated the 70th anniversary
of its most famous landmark of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de
Janeiro, October 11, 2001. The Christ statue is located 747 meters
above sea level. The Rio archdiocese commissioned the sculpture in the
1920s and Brazilian architect Heitor da Silva Costa inaugurated it five
years later on October 12, 1931 as a belated monument to Brazil's
independence from Portugal. REUTERS/Sergio Moraes
