THOUSANDS OF LIBYANS TAKE PART IN A PROTEST FOR THE CONVICTION OF LIBYAN SECRET AGENT ABEL BASSET AL-MEGRAHI FOR THE LOCKERBIE AIRLINER BOMBING IN THE CENTRE OF TRIPOLI.
Thousands of Libyans carrying portraits of Colonel Muammar Gadaffi protest the conviction of Libyan secret agent Abel Basset al-Megrahi for the Lockerbie airliner bombing in the centre of Tripoli on February 3, 2001, outside the United Nations headquarters building. Al-Megrahi was sentenced to at least 20 years in a Scottish prison for the bombing which brought down Pan Am flight 103 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988, killing 270 people. Fellow Libyan Al-Amin Khalifa Fahima was acquitted.
