LOCAL VILLAGERS PREFORM A PAGAN RITUAL DANCE IN VILLAGE OF VEVCANI.
Local villagers perform a pagan ritual dance in the village of Vevcani,
some 170kms from the Macedonian capital, January 14, 2002. Vevcani
annually marks Orthodox St. Vasilij Day as outsiders flock to the
Macedonian village for a carnival which features a 1,300-year-old
celebration of pagan roots. Its highlight is a political satire, with
masked villagers acting out current events. REUTERS/Ognen Teofilovski
