MARY'S HOUSE IN MALTA AT CENTRE OF LOCKERBIE APPEAL.
An unidentified sales assistant padlocks the clothes shop Mary's House
in Sliema, close to Valletta, February 8, 2002. During the Lockerbie
bombing trial, the owner of Mary's House, Tony Gauci, gave evidence
against Libyan Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi. He said al-Megrahi bought
clothes from him which were found wrapped around the suitcase bomb
which brought down Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing
270 people, in 1988. Al-Megrahi is serving a life sentence after being
found guilty of the bombing. His appeal centres on Gauci's
controversial testimony, and questions about whether the bomb was
originally loaded at Malta's Luqa Airport or at Heathrow, London.
