FILIPINO IFUGAO TRIBESWOMAN CARRIES RICE STALKS ON HER HEAD IN TOWN OF
BANAUE.
A Filipino Ifugao tribeswoman carries rice stalks for drying on her
head in the northern Filipino town of Banaue, August 12, 2003. The
Ifugao people and their culture is in danger of extinction as younger
tribespeople are lured by the promise of better opportunities in the
lowlands. The fast deterioration of the Banaue rice terraces, from
which the Ifugao people get their livelihood, is also contributing to
the change in lifestyle of the tribe. REUTERS/Erik de Castro PP03120062
