AN OFFICER OF INDONESIA'S CENTRAL BANK COUNTS RUPIAH BANKNOTES IN JAKARTA.
An officer of Indonesia's central bank counts piles of rupiah banknotes at the Bank Indonesia in Jakarta April 23, 2001. Indonesia's central bank said on Monday it was "obvious" that already steep interest rates would likely be hiked further to stem the rupiah's slide. Interest rates are at 21-month highs while the currency is at its lowest since September, 1998, due to mounting political uncertainty and a raft of economic problems.
