Roya Dutch Petroleum chairman rings opening bell at New York Stock Exchange.
Royal Dutch Petroleum Company President Jeroen van der Veer (3rd R) rings the opening bell to start trading at the New York Stock Exchange, August 3, 2004. U.S. Stocks opened lower on Tuesday, bogged down by high oil prices and data showing a larger-than-expected fall in consumer spending. In late morning trading the Dow Jones industrial average was off 21 points at 10,158. Joining van der Veer are David Lawrence (2nd L), of Shell International Group Investor Relations, NYSE Chief Executive Officer John Thain (3rd L), and NYSE and company officials.
