Albanian President Rexhep Meidani embraces on December 20 the teenage son of Arshi Bregasi, 42, an Albanian policeman who was killed by armed gangs near the southern Albanian town of Ballsh on Thursday night. Two other policemen were also killed while driving to aid citizens the gang had captured, bringing the death toll of policemen this week in Albania to six. Albania is awash with weapons since army depots were broken open in March. The Interior Ministry has ordered policemen to shoot criminals without warning.
