In Mexico, Aztec ritual finds set records, heighten royal mystery
A general view of a ritual Aztec offering holding a large deposit of precious green stone fragments, the first of its kind ever found and likely from a lapidary workshop, discovered recently in circular pit just off the steps of the Templo Mayor, the Aztec empire’s most sacred temple, in Mexico City, Mexico November 15 , 2022. The offering, known as offering 183, has only been partially excavated and was likely dedicated during the reign of King Motecuhzoma I who ruled from 1440-1469. REUTERS/Henry Romero
