MEXICAN FARMER DEL VALLE SPEAKS DURING A PROTEST IN SAN SALVADOR
ATENCO.
Mexican Farmer, Ignacio del Valle speaks in front of central park of
San Salvador Atenco, a small town in the state of Mexico during a
meeting to protest local elections being held throughout the country's
most populous state on March 9, 2003. The farmers also shut down some
polling stations and said the protests during the election were to
pressure the government to release some of their leaders arrested last
year during violent protests against government plans to build a large
new airport near Atenco. President Vicente Fox and his conservative
National Action Party have been unable to push their reform agenda
through Congress because they do not have a majority. REUTERS/Henry
