COLOMBIAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SERPA SPEAKS TO MEDIA.
Colombian presidential candidate Horacio Serpa speaks, flanked by
former foreign minister Maria Emma Mejia, during a press conference in
Mexico City, August 21, 2001. Serpa, who will campaign for the office
next year, said that he doubted that current President Andres
Pastrana's administration would reach a peace agreement with the
guerrillas. He also said that, under his administration, the Colombian
government would cut off all peace talks with the rebels if it were
confirmed that they were actively involved in drug cultivation and
trafficking.
