An artisan in Mexico State outside Mexico City makes the traditional
rough brown pottery of the Mazahua Indian region, in this photo take on
December 7, 2001. Production of the pottery for sale has become
unprofitable due to the high cost of wood for firing, and with
agricultural prices depressed, many indigenous residents are moving
from the countryside to the cities in a desperate quest for work.
