[Mexican Mayan farmer Diego Uc was arrested at put in prison for 9 months after using seemingly random rocks to build with on his land. Authorities prosecuted Diego Uc for violating a national monument, as the rocks he had used were in fact of this pre-Hispanic archaeological site, about a mile away from his home. Uc was never formally informed that he could not use the rocks, which were on his property for building and as a poor Mayan farmer, who speaks weak Spanish, was badly equiped to defend himself in court.]
