FAMILY MEMBERS OF 17 PEASANTS MASSACRED BY STATE POLICE MARCH.
Family members of 17 peasants massacred by state police on June 28,
1995 march with a peasant organization OCCS banner to the site of the
attack in Aguas Blancas, Mexico, June 28, 2001. Though 37 police and
other officials were sentenced in the killings, family members and
survivors want to prosecute top government leaders including the former
governor of Guerrero state. They, along with family members of some
1,300 "disappeared" nationwide, are pressing President Vicente Fox to
form a truth commission to investigate and prosecute past human rights
violations committed by the government.
