Palestinian President Yasser Arafat holds a gun as he inspects damage
to a destroyed Palestinian police position attacked by Israeli jets in
the southern Gaza Strip August 26, 2001. Israel troops killed a
Palestinian policeman as they thrust into Palestinian-ruled areas in
Gaza early on Sunday in retaliation for attacks by militants in which
three Israeli soldiers and two Israeli motorists died.
