Jerusalem, Israel - State of
ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BARAK WITH U.S. SENATE MEMBERS.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak (L) meets with Ted Stevens, (C) head of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, and committee member Sen. Thad Cochran (R), in Jerusalem January 12. The committee toured the Golan Heights earlier in the day, the strategic plateau Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war and the place Syria is demanding back in exchange for peace. Israel has said such a withdrawal would cost up to $17 billion, much of which it wants subsidized by the United States.
