ISRAELI WINDMILLS AND OLD BUNKER ON GOLAN HEIGHTS.
An old, abandoned Israeli army bunker and huge spinning windmills dominate a hilltop on the eastern Golan Heights late January 12 afternoon overlooking the Syrian town of Kneitra and the Mount Hermon mountain range (background, center) which lies both in Israeli and Syrian territory. Israel abandoned the trench bunker years ago as the United Nations maintains a force a few hundred meters below at a border crossing point between Israel and Syria. The Israeli windmills, a private enterprise by a Golan Heights Jewish settler, produce enough power to provide electricity to some 20,000 people - more than the Israeli inhabitants of the Golan Heights. The power is sold to the Israeli electrical grid.
