Family and friends attend the funeral on April 29, 2001, of Sergeant Shlomo Elmakayis, 20, an Israeli soldier killed by suspected Arab gunmen who sprayed his car with gunfire at an intersection near an Israeli Arab village in northern Israel on April 28. Elmakayis, who was on leave, was driving home with friends after an Israeli Independence holiday weekend when the attack occurred.
