CONGRESSMAN GEPHARDT TOURS REBUILT DOWNTOWN BEIRUT.
U.S. House Democratic leader Richard Gephardt and his wife tour
Beirut's newly rebuilt central business district on Jan 15, 2002.
Gephardt, who is leading a congressional delegation on a regional tour
to discuss the U.S. campaign against "terrorism", urged Lebanese
officials on Monday to hand over militants suspected of links to the
Hizbollah guerrilla group. The delegation toured Beirut's reconstructed
downtown area, which had been heavily damaged during the 1975-1990
civil war, before heading to Damascus for similar talks with Syrian
officials. REUTERS/Mohamed Azakir
