AN ELDERLY PALESTINIAN WALKS PAST AN ISRAELI ARMY BULLDOZER STARTING
THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW BYPASS ROAD IN THE WEST BANK.

An elderly Palestinian walks past an Israeli army bulldozer starting
the construction of a new bypass road towards the newly established
Maale Rehavam outpost in the West Bank near the town of Bethlehem
February 7, 2002. Settlers say the group of some seven caravans, named
after right-wing Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Zeevi who was
assassinated by Palestinian gunmen in October, is a new Jewish
settlement. Palestinians regard all Jewish settlement building on land
occupied by Israel in 1967 as a impediment to peacemaking.
