ISRAELI TANK AT THE BORDER WITH THE GAZA STRIP.
An Israeli Merkava - Hebrew for chariot - leaves the Gaza Strip and
enters Israel at the Karni cross point March 14, 2002. Palestinian
militants struck a demoralising blow against the Israeli army on
Thursday by destroying a Merkava-3 tank, a symbol of Israel's military
prowess, as it drove in a convoy through the Gaza Strip. It was the
second time in a month that the Palestinians, who are armed mainly with
crude bombs and Kalashnikovs, have blown up a tank which Israeli
officers had once considered virtually invincible.
