MILITARY POLICE ROUGH UP NEWS PHOTOGRAPHER ON NEW YEARS EVE IN RIO.
Military police rough up Brazilian photographer Fernando Bezerra Jr. of 'Jornal do Brasil' newspaper during a New Years eve party at the Copacabana Fort, in Rio de Janeiro January 1. Bezerra was making pictures of a tent which blew over in the wind, and was to serve as a stand for President Fernando Henrique Cardoso's entourage, when MP's roughed him up. He was released but had his camera equipment broken in full view of guests and the working media. Brazil ushered in the new millennium with a fireworks show at midnight.
