Members of the National Unity Party (NUP) campaign for Myanmar's upcoming elections in Yangon
Members of the National Unity Party (NUP) campaign for Myanmar's upcoming elections in Yangon October 5, 2010. Myanmar will hold its first election in two decades on November 7 as part of a process critics say has been carefully crafted to ensure the military retains its five-decade grip on power. The army-dominated political process has been dubbed an "election of generals" and widely dismissed as a sham, but there is hope that the system could spur reforms and gradually take power away from authoritarian military officers. The NUP came in second in Myanmar's last election in 1990. REUTERS/Soe Zeya Tun (MYANMAR - Tags: SOCIETY POLITICS ELECTIONS)
