YOUNG GIRL SELLS RARE ANIMAL PARTS AT A MYANMAR MARKET.
A young girl sells rare animal parts in front of a Buddhist temple in Tachilek, Myanmar January 16. According to the seller, the animal parts on offer are (L-R) tiger penis selling for US$13, carved tiger teeth selling for $4 each, a bird's head selling for $66 and, on the shelf below, beer coaster-sized patches of tiger skin selling for $4 per slice. Animal rights groups claim that the continued selling of animal parts, popular in some Asian cultures for medicinal purposes or alleged sexual performance enhancers, is threatening many rare species with extinction.
