Austria's first monument to Jews killed by the Nazis was unveiled in Vienna on October 25, 2000, as a testimony to the almost complete eradication of the country's Jewish community in World War Two. The "Nameless Library", the brainchild of veteran Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal and constructed by British artist Rachel Whiteread, was opened almost four years later than planned because of a row over the site in the heart of the Austrian capital.
