NOBEL PRIZE WINNER FOR CHEMISTRY BARRY SHARPLESS.
Barry Sharpless smiles from his home in La Jolla, California, after
being awarded the 2001 Nobel prize in Chemistry for research that leads
to the creation of life-saving drugs, October 10, 2001. Sharpless
shares the $1 million award with Ryoji Noyori of Japan's Nagoya
University and William Knowles, for key research that has been used to
create numerous products, including antibiotics and anti-inflammatory
and heart drugs, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said in its
