Flags fly outside Novozymes' factory in the Tianjin Economic Development Area

The Danish national flag (L) flies alongside the Chinese national flag (C) and the flag of biopharmaceutical company Novozymes, outside the company's factory located in the Tianjin Economic Development Area (TEDA), 120 kiolemtres southeast of Beijing May 24, 2011. Novozymes, the world's largest industrial enzymes maker, is confident China's bioethanol market will grow by at least 20 percent over the next five years. Bioethanol, an alcohol made mainly from sugar and starch crops, is used as a fuel typically for cars. The Danish biotech dominates the global market for bioethanol enzymes with a share of over 60 percent, and a share of about 47 percent of the enzyme market as a whole. China is the world's largest energy consumer, and the government has targeted to cut its levels of carbon intensity -- the amount of carbon dioxide produced per unit of GDP -- by 17 percent by the end of 2015.
