Olympus Optical research engineer Kumi Umehara displays a wearable PC prototype jointly developed by the optical company and IBM Japan at a Olympus laboratory in Hachioji in the suburbs of Tokyo November 29. IBM Japan developed the wearable PC prototype's system unit, controller, I/O extension box, and Olympus developed the monocular face mount display "PC-Eye Trek" with IBM which was incorporated to the headset. Being the size of a portable stereo set with standalone headset and a miniature one-handed controller, this PC can be worn on a person's body, using a high speed digital interface to send video signals in order to efficiently display a high resolution SVGA (800 x 600) colour screen to the face mount display, the company said.
